Walk Humbly Before God and People

Walk Humbly Before God and People

Reflections by Rev. Harry Stackhouse

I Peter 5:5-6 “…and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.” NAS

Humility is defined as meekness, gentleness, abased, and lowliness. Humility says, “I am not more important than the worst of sinners around me.”

Humility described two of the most influential leaders in the Bible. In the Old Testament it was said of Moses that “…the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.” Numbers 12:3

In the New Testament Jesus said in Matthew 11:29 “…I am gentle and humble in heart.”

Jesus is the best example of ministering from a humble heart. The Bible says in Philippians 2:6-8 “…who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond –servant, and being made in the likeness of men, being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death on a cross.”

Jesus saw everyone as one being valuable. Assign God’s value to every soul that you meet. All have gone astray and need a savior.

I encourage you to walk humbly because God give grace to the humble, but opposes the proud.

God seems to work faster and more effectively through vessels of humility.

There is power in humility.

·      It invites the power and presence of God. II Chronicles 7:14

·      It is the place to learn justice and God’s ways. Psalm 25:9

·      It establishes trust and that is what people follow.
